Immunoglobulin deposition in liver of patients with active chronic hepatitis and antibody against smooth muscle.

چکیده
Liver biopsies from 33 patients with miscellaneous liver diseases were studied by direct immunofluorescence. Three patients with active chronic hepatitis possessed a distinctive pattern of staining with anti-IgG conjugate. They were relatively young women and all three possessed the anti-smooth-muscle antibody. In addition, all three were untreated at the time of study. It is suggested that direct immunofluorescence on liver biopsies may help in the investigation of liver disease and that humoral immunity may participate in the pathogenesis of active chronic hepatitis.

Autoimmune hepatitis induced by nitrofurantoin. The importance of the autoantibodies for an early diagnosis of immune disease
Nitrofurantoin has been in use since 1953 as an effective agent for the prevention of recurrent urinary tract infection. It is associated with a wide range of adverse drug reactions. Chronic active hepatitis has increasingly been observed and many cases have been reported with case fatalities. We present a case of nitrofurantoin induced chronic active hepatitis and briefly review the serology a...
متن کاملLack of cross-reactivity between antibody against smooth muscle and antibodies to measles virus in sera from patients with chronic active hepatitis.
A majority of patients with HBsAg-negative chronic active hepatitis (CAH) show considerably raised titres of serum antibodies against measles virus antigens. Since these patients often have high titers of antiactin specific antibodies against smooth muscle, and since actin is also incorporated into the measles virion during replication, we have examined whether there was any cross-reactivity be...
متن کاملParaproteins with antibody activity in acute viral hepatitis and chronic autoimmune liver diseases.
Of 27 patients with liver disease and cryoglobulinaemia 18 proved to have paraproteins. Six of these monoclonal immunoglobulins were shown to have antibody activity, directed to human gamma globulin, alpha(1)-fetoprotein, smooth muscle, and mitochondria.Eight of the patients suffered from acute viral hepatitis, five of whom were HB Ag positive; in all these cases the monoclonal spikes were tran...
